Music ministry at St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta has a long tradition of quality and resonance, connecting the people of God at our parish with heart-felt and prayerful experiences––both liturgical and in the concert setting. At the core of our music program are the many dedicated volunteers, singers and instrumentalists alike.
With multiple masses celebrated every Sunday, occasional concerts, and special holiday liturgies, numerous opportunities exist for talented volunteers to participate in our music ministry. While Sunday singing is central to our ministry, some members sing only on special occasions, concerts, or for certain portions of the year. As you can see below, there are many ways to share your talents at our parish! We invite you to learn more about each of our four volunteer choirs on this page. If you are interested in joining in any way, please contact our music director Lily May after Mass. You may also reach her at the Parish Office either by email or by calling 312-842-6777 (STWS) or 312-842-7979 (SBWS). The Volunteer Choirs of SMTC
Sunday Music Ministry
Sunday mass at St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta is blessed with thoughtful and inspired music, and we are always looking to continue its growth and energy. We are one music ministry, with our talented and dedicated members welcome to sing at any or all of our different services, including the 5 pm Anticipatory Mass, the Sunday masses at 8:00 am, 9:30 am, and 10:30 am, and the Cantonese, Mandarin, and Indonesian masses that occur one Sunday a month. Additionally, our Holy Name Choir comprises a group of men that enjoy lifting up their voices to give glory to God; it's open to any man who desires to do the same. We invite you to utilize your singing or musical skills by joining any of this important part of SMTCP! Members are requested to commit to attending rehearsals. Christmas Choir
“Break forth into joyous song, and sing out your praise!” — Psalm 98 This simple quote, taken from the psalm for Christmas day, brilliantly brings to mind the most musical time and day of the year. Christmas is a time of great hospitality when we as a family of faith open our doors and hearts to welcome people from near and far to celebrate with us during our many Christmas liturgies and musical celebrations. Please consider sharing in the spirit-filled joy of participating in this important season! Whether you join in caroling or the Midnight Mass/Christmas Day Choirs, there is a place for you and a rehearsal schedule to accommodate your busy and bustling life. Holy Week & Easter Choir
With Christians everywhere, with the church universal, with all our talents, and with faith-filled and hopeful hearts, we celebrate the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus. We consider this holiest of weeks a golden opportunity to warmly welcome thousands of pilgrims and seekers to a joyous and sacred time of prayer and celebration. Many extra liturgies are scheduled to accommodate the crowds requiring additional singers and instrumentalists. Concert Choir
SMTC presents occasional concerts during the year, showcasing and celebrating the many talents of our parish and the essence of who we are as people of faith. We take up collections at these concerts for the less fortunate, and every so often we even collaborate with another choir. Our concerts have become a great source of pride for the community! |
