Parents want what is best for their children. Baptism is God’s most precious gift. It is good, therefore, for parents to identify godparents and baptize their children, raising them in the Catholic faith. In Baptism, the “one Spirit” makes us members of the Body of Christ and of “one another” CCC, no. 1267. In grace of baptism we receive a “vocation to holiness,” which is “intimately connected” to our membership in the “Communion of Saints,” which strives to make present the “Kingdom of God in history.”
The baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist was magnificent. Luke’s description provides us with an idea of what our own baptism will be like: Heaven was opened, and the Holy Spirit descended upon him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.” Parents wishing to baptize their children or adults desiring baptism for themselves should contact the Parish Office either by email or by calling 312-842-6777 (STWS) or 312-842-7979 (SBWS).
PLEASE NOTE: Parents and Godparents must attend a baptismal preparation session before baptism will be scheduled. Our parish has a team of ministers who are ready to help get you, your child, and your godparents prepared to celebrate baptism. |
